People in Knapdale were mostly cattle ranchers, farmers and fishermen. Most of them lived on Highland rural estates, owned by a "Laird" or "Heritor." Up until the time of the "Great Disruption" of the early 1840's, the Kirk, that is the Church of Scotland, was the dominant intellectual and moral force among these people. This section shows something of their everyday lives.
